Frequently asked questions
No, it should be a bad idea
The results are to be read by the doctor who prescribed the analysis according to a global medical exam. Your doctor is thus the one able to answer to your request.
On the other hand, the lab can not be sure that you are the right person who is calling or emailing. Thus it is difficult, to guarantee to the patients the medical secrecy on this way. ( how could we be sure, it is not your neighbour who is calling on your place ? )
If you do have a mutuality, it is the Belgian assurability system that is apply.
If you do not have one or not communicated to our services you will pay the global invoice.
How to collect urine ?
In case of diagnosis of an urinary infection (straight examination microscopic test and culture, it’s recommended to collect urine mid-stream on morning-urine-ideally-and at least 4 hours, before the previous urination.
By this way, the first jet will be eliminated and the right one collected in a sterile bottle ( available in pharmacies or in our collect centers) the urine has to be at the lab within 4 hours and if not, would be kept in the fridge during maximum 24h.
If STD is searching ( chlamydia trachomatis, gonocques), it would be better to use the first jet.
Analysis and chemical dosing
In case of analysis which do not need 24 hours urine collection, a first run sample is indicated.
For tests requiring a 24 hour urine collection, we need to collect all the urine produced by the kidneys in 24 hours.
Vials are available at our lab or in our collection points.
Patient need to follow this procedure:
- Empty the bladder with the first urine of the day. There are not part of the 24 hours collection.
- From this moment (write down the time), collect all urine from the day and night in collection container.
- The next day when you wake up collect the first urine in the morning and add it to the same container
- During collection, keep the container in the fridge
- The dosage of catecholamines, dopamines, VMA and 5HIAA is done on acidified 24-Hour urine ( special vials containing acid are also available to patients at our labs and at collection points).
=> Be cautious to avoid acid splashes especially the first fractions.
Avoid collecting urine in recuperation bottles: it is neither clean, nor practical, nor solid and it is not safe and hygienic due to the rules of our lab.
It is essential to be fasting because of the study of the metabolism such as;
- Glycemic analyzis
- Lipid profile
But for several other analyzis , this is not essential, such as antibodies that you make to immunize yourself
In any case, it is better not to take a large and high fat meal before a blood test.
On the other hand, certain tests to check the effectiveness of your treatment may require a particular schedule ( before taking a medicine or X hours after taking it).
The better way is asking your doctor when he will prescribe the analyzis or when making an appointment at our lab.
It depends on the center you choose (refer to the list)
Most of the time, you do not have to make and appointment, but in special cases, you will have to, as : semen samples, glycemic values, you can always call the center they will be able to answer to every specific cases.
During the collection, you will be asked for a sticker of the mutual insurance. This vignette is necessary especially to allow the laboratory to have your insurability information and be able to bill the fees paid by the health insurance disability directly from your mutual.
If you have changed your address, make sure you are using updated stickers. The laboratory will rely on the information you have given, and it is not pleasant for us and even less for you to resort to judicial recovery! A tip, if you change your address, throw out your old stickers if you still have some.
